My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I am an avid historical fiction reader. I am captivated by authors reconstructing events, so that we are better able to appreciate what people experienced. The Tattooist of Auschwitz is based on a true story, and so that, in and of itself, is remarkable. The writing, however, is not, and sometimes it seems to get in the way of good storytelling. So, while Lale and Gita's story is very compelling, I wouldn't recommend this book unless you read a high volume of books each year. There really are better written Holocaust novels that do a better job weaving fact and fiction together.
Happy reading--
